Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of building professionals who apply knowledge of structural principles, risk and financial management, estimating, preparing and administering building and construction contracts, selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality and managing construction work in building projects including residential and commercial with the following limitations:

Residential construction limited to National Construction Code Class 1 and 10 buildings to a maximum of 3 storeys.
Commercial construction limited to National Construction Code Class 2 to 9 buildings, Type C and B construction.

Builder
General Foreperson
Building Inspector

The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have access to a live building and construction workplace to meet the requirements detailed in the Assessment Requirements of core unit CPCCBC4008 Supervise communication and administration processes for building and construction projects.

Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of unit CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Builder licensing varies across States and Territories and requirements additional to the attainment of this qualification may be required.

Credit Transfer:

Where the MEI identifies that student has indicated on the Application form or during orientation that student has completed the nationally recognised unit of competency and possible credit transfer or prior experience,

The following procedure will be followed:

Students with credit transfers will be asked to fill credit transfer form.

The credit transfer form requires the student to complete information, e.g. qualification and unit of competency achieved previously, date and Institute achieved. The student will be asked to provide a testamur and/or a statement of results. . MEI will check authenticity of these results :

Confirm that the qualification or Statement of Attainment is genuine and issued by a registered RTO.
Cross-check the RTO’s registration status via training.gov.au.
Use the USI Transcript Service (with student consent) as a preferred method of verification.
Verification Methods MEI may use
USI Transcript Lookup – most reliable and preferred.
Direct contact with the issuing RTO, particularly if:
The document looks altered or inconsistent.
The RTO is no longer operational – check through ASQA or archived data
Any credit transfer identified will be advised to the student.
Course duration will be adjusted accordingly, and students will be advised that this will reduce the length of CoE.
The student will be advised to speak to the Department of Home affair to discuss the impact it may have on the visa.
MEI staff shouldn’t provide visa advice as they are not authorized to do so.
An amended timetable will be issued to students adjusting credit transfer units. Pre-requisite units must be completed first.
Student CoE length will be adjusted accordingly.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Where the MEI identifies that student has indicated on the Application Form, Pre Training Review Form or during orientation that student has prior experience, the following procedure will be followed:

Students with potential RPL will be asked to complete the RPL form.
RPL form requires the student to complete information, e.g. details of prior work experience, training and courses relevant to the unit of competency where RPL is sought (but not equivalent) or training achieved previously, date, employers/ MEI achieved.
The student will be advised that potential RPL will reduce the length of course duration, and CoE will be adjusted.
The student will be advised to speak to the Department of Home affair to discuss the impact it may have on the visa. MEI’s staff shouldn’t provide visa advice as they are not authorized to do so.
The student will be provided with RPL KIT.
Trainer/Assessor will conduct an information session and will complete an RPL interview.
The student will gather and provide evidence in line with RPL KIT and unit of competency requirements.
Any RPL granted will be advised to the student.
Course duration will be adjusted accordingly, and students will be advised that this will reduce the length of CoE.
A contextualized timetable will be issued to students adjusting RPL units. Pre-requisite units must be completed first.
Student CoE length will be adjusted accordingly.

In order to achieve the BSB41015 Certificate III in Carpentry students must satisfactorily complete

CPCCBC4008 Supervise site communication and administration processes for building and construction projects
CPCCBC4009 Apply legal requirements to building and construction projects

CPCCBC4012 Read and interpret plans and specifications

Entry Requirements:

There is no pre-requisites or specific entry requirement for this qualification. This course is available to all international students and MEI requires that students are able to provide evidence that they:

Have successfully completed Australian year 12 or equivalent.
Are at least at age of 18 on the date of course commencement.
Have obtained an IELTS band score of at least 6 – or equivalent; or 5.5 where the test score is combined with at least 10 weeks ELICOS or 5.0 where the test score is combined with at least 20 weeks ELICOS (Note – IELTS – results are valid for two years only: reference: https://support.cambridgeenglish.org/hc/en-gb/articles/202838296-How-long-aremy-results-and-certificate-valid-for-); or
Have completed a Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma level Training Package course in Australia; or,
Have completed any Certificate III or Certificate IV in ESL or EAL from the ESL/EAL Framework (VIC).
Have completed the ELICOS Course: General English – Intermediate Level
Have a suitable level of language, literacy, and numeracy to complete course requirements with or without additional support that MEI is able to provide.

Please Note: All the students commencing this course are required to complete LLN test on the orientation day to assist MEI to identify student’s needs for additional support during their study with MEI.

MEI will review the student’s current competencies, student needs, English level, support requirements and oral communication skills in order to enroll them in the most appropriate course to achieve their intended outcomes.

Physical Abilities requirements-for CPC Qualifications.

Learners are expected to have physical abilities and manual handling required to perform tasks involved while undergoing training effectively. As parts of these qualifications, students are expected to do manual handling and heavy lifting

Note: Practical site visits will be scheduled as per the unit delivery and assessments. Students will be well informed about the practical site visit details.

This course at MEI will be delivered face to face in a classroom, for a minimum of 20 hours per week over 52 weeks to achieve knowledge and skills defined in each unit of competency for this qualification.
The delivery schedule outlines details of weekly study, hours of contact time and assessments to be completed.
Students may work at a variety of individual paces and complete the course in a shorter or longer timeframe. The duration and scheduling will consider the need for students to fully gain and develop the skills and knowledge that the assessment will assess; allowing for variations of some students due to specific learning needs and time for students for reflect on their learning and practice the skills and knowledge in a real or simulated workplace prior to presenting for assessment
