IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Cancellation of BSB80120 Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) under the ESOS Act

Dear Students and Education Agents,

Melbourne Education Institute (MEI) is writing to advise you of an important Australian Government regulatory change affecting the BSB80120 Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) (GDML) for overseas students.

Why is this happening?

The Hon Julian Hill MP, Assistant Minister for International Education, has made a legislative instrument specifying BSB80120 Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) for automatic suspension and cancellation under section 96B of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS Act).

This is an Australian Government regulatory measure and is not a decision made by MEI. The measure forms part of broader government action to protect the integrity and reputation of Australia's student visa program and international education sector.

As a CRICOS-registered provider, MEI is required to comply with this change.

What will happen from 5 October 2026?

From 5 October 2026, CRICOS providers, including MEI, will not be permitted to:

  • issue new Confirmations of Enrolment (CoEs) for the GDML;

  • enrol new overseas students in the GDML; or

  • commence overseas students in the GDML who have not already commenced the course.

In addition, any CoE associated with the GDML will be automatically cancelled on 5 October 2026 where the student has not commenced the course.

Students who have already commenced the GDML

If you are enrolled in and have commenced the GDML by 5 October 2026, your current studies can continue.

MEI is permitted to continue delivering the GDML to existing overseas students who have commenced the course by this date. You may therefore continue your studies with MEI in accordance with your existing enrolment and study arrangements.

Students with a CoE who have not yet commenced

If MEI has issued you a CoE for the GDML but you have not yet commenced the course, this regulatory change directly affects you.

Please contact MEI and/or your education agent as soon as possible to discuss your individual circumstances and the options available to you.

Depending on your circumstances, these options may include:

  1. Commencing the GDML before 5 October 2026, where this is appropriate to your circumstances and you are able to meet all applicable enrolment and visa requirements before the deadline.

  2. Cancelling your GDML enrolment and receiving an applicable refund. MEI will meet its placement and refund obligations under the ESOS framework and applicable refund requirements.

  3. Considering another suitable course offered by MEI, where available, that aligns with your study objectives and future career plans.

  4. Considering a suitable course with another education provider that aligns with your study and future career plans.

Please note: If you have not commenced the GDML by 5 October 2026, you will not be able to commence the course after this date and your GDML CoE will be automatically cancelled.

What should affected students do now?

If you have not yet commenced the GDML, we strongly encourage you to contact MEI or your education agent as soon as possible so that you have sufficient time to consider your options and make appropriate arrangements.

MEI will provide affected students with information and assistance regarding their enrolment, alternative study options where available, and applicable refund arrangements.

If you have questions about how this change may affect your student visa, please contact the Department of Home Affairs or seek advice from a registered migration agent, as appropriate.

Further Information

Further information about the legislative instrument and the cancellation of the GDML is available from the Australian Government:

We understand that this regulatory change may affect the study plans of some students. MEI will work with affected students and education agents to provide accurate information and assist with the available options.

If you require further information or assistance, please contact MEI or your education agent.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Kind regards,
